Farewell to an old friend...

...no updates to the site yet but today I mourn the passing of a dear friend

With no fanfare or ceremony Apple finally laid the CRT based iMac to rest. Anybody that knows me will know that I am an absolute Apple fanatic and I saw the potential of the iMac from day one and lapped it up. Right now I have 4 iMacs amongst my collection, 2 Bondai, a Lime and an Indigo.

Working for one of the UK's largest dealers I got my hands on one before launch so I would be able to demo them at the Capital Cafe in London. The UK launch was about a week after the one in the States which meant by then the first soft ROM patches were out and at least we were able to print.

Not only was the iMac the computer that saved Apple but it saw the mass market adoption of USB, something the Wintel world had been trying to do for a couple of years without success (USB being an Intel technology after all), fast ethernet as standard and the elimination of the floppy disk.

Whatever your thoughts on USB we must at least thank Apple for ridding us of the floppy drive, hateful thing that it is. I am always amazed at people who trust months or even years of work to floppies and don't even bother having a backup copy. Just asking for trouble.

So dear friend. We will miss you. Thank you for all that you did.
Partings are always hard
